Amazing Quotes

One of the cooler things about the Internet and Social Media is the quotes that people share. You would not likely find these on your own but when you see great ones yourself, it’s hard not to share.

“A perfect man would never act from a sense of duty; he’d always want the right thing more than the wrong one. Duty is only a substitute for love (of God and of other people), like a crutch that is a substitute for a leg. Most of us need the crutch at times: but of course it is idiotic to use the crutch when our own legs (our own loves, tastes, habits, etc.) can do the journey on their own!”

— C.S. Lewis

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His Name?

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.

When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.

— Isaac Watts, Sermon on 1 Cor 16:13 – When the Battle’s Over

It is the failure to understand Jesus and his words as reality and vital information about life that explains why, today, we do not routinely teach those who profess allegiance to him how to do what he said was best. We lead them to profess allegiance to him, or we expect them to, and leave them there, devoting our remaining efforts to ‘attracting’ them to this or that.

— Dallas Willard, The Devine Conspiracy

It is either all of the Word of God or none of the Word of God. To slice it up is to compromise its authority.

— A.W. Tozer

Our goal is not to know ourselves – to understand our strengths or weaknesses – tho that may happen along the way. It is to seek and to look into the infinite depths of God and find ourselves worshipping with every newly discovered facet of Him

— Jay Seidle

The church has lost her testimony. She has no longer anything to say to the world. Her once robust shout of assurance has faded away to an apologetic whisper. She who one time went out to declare now goes out to inquire. Her dogmatic declaration has become a respectful suggestion, a word of religious advice, given with the understanding that it is after all only an opinion and not meant to sound bigoted. Pure Christianity, instead of being shaped by its culture, actually stands in sharp opposition to it.

— A.W. Tozer

All others are merely playing at religion, make-believe soldiers, with no armour and no ammunition, who are absolutely helpless in the face of a wicked and gainsaying world. None but soldiers and bond servants of Jesus Christ can possibly do this tremendous work.

— E.M. Bounds

Before the world, aye, before the sleepy, lukewarm, faithless, namby-pamby Christian world, we will dare to trust our God. We will venture our all for Him. We will live and we will die for Him and we will do it with His joy unspeakable singing aloud in our hearts

— C.T. Studd

Until you come to the place of union with Christ in death, you are defrauding the Son of God of the glory that He could get out of your life.

— Paris Reidhead
